alpha at rbc
Alpha is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith. We usually run an evening course each January to April, and a daytime course each September to December, and recently ran an online course during lockdown
It is low-key, friendly and fun. Every evening there is a hot meal, a talk and time for discussion, with refreshment served during the daytime course. There is no pressure on individuals to contribute, just sitting and listening to other people's views and experiences is absolutely fine. Ages range from mid-teens to 80’s!
People come to Alpha for a variety of reasons - some want to investigate whether God exists; others are concerned about what happens after death. Some people have particular questions that they would like to discuss; others want to understand other people's beliefs or would like to explore what the purpose of life is. Many guests have never been to church before, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith, and others are regular church attendees who want to explore their own faith.
“Over 2 million people in the UK and 11 million worldwide have now attended an Alpha course, running in tens of thousands of churches of all denominations across the world.”
The launch event is free, as is the rest of the course. You are very warmly invited to come along to this evening, which will include a meal, musical entertainment, and an introduction to the course. The subsequent course runs for ten weeks, but coming to the launch does not commit you to come on the course. Every week of the main course is very relaxed, informal and, like the launch event, includes a hot meal for the evening course, refreshments for the daytime course, as well as a talk, and time in discussion groups.
